Is it Really All About Me?

As I was walking around at the local shopping mall yesterday, I couldn’t help but glance at the stores I used to shop in as a teenager… you know the ones… The ones that sell the $5 shirts and the clothes that after 2 or 3 washings would end up in your trash bin. The stores that even a college budget can afford, but you often walk a fine line of respectable college student and possible sidewalk worker 😉

As I looked at the clothing these stores now offer, my heart sank. Across an entire store window was several items of clothing with phrases like: “It’s All About Me,” “Does Anything Matter But Me,” and “Look No Further, I’m Here.” I would have believed that hype and actually smiled at those phrases about 10 years ago. Those phrases make me sad today.

Our Creator made us for a reason. Not so that we would sit around and boast about how awesome we are or how much we can handle. Truth be told, we cannot handle anything without Him. He made us awesome – each and everyone of us. I’m speaking in generalities, but how can we love ourselves so much but often give Him so little credit?

As my heart sank and the as I looked at those shirts, the only thing I could think of was “Die to self.”

Die to self.

“He must become Greater,
I must become less.”
John 3:30
