The Power to Endure – 1 Corinthians 10:13, James 1:4
Have you ever wanted to give up or simply stop trying? Have you ever wondered why? Many of us, including myself, give up right before we face a fear or rejection simply because WE know the outcome – it won’t happen this time… it won’t be right… it’s just not meant to be. I reminded too often that God promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13 “… And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.” So why do we give up and feel we are unfit to handle God’s plan for us?
The answer may lie in one word – Endurance. Many of us have not trained ourselves, including both physically and mentally, to actually see the end result of something we work hard for.
When is the last time you started a workout plan and didn’t expect immediate results? How about that diet that you painstakingly wrote down all of your food for three days straight and wondered why you didn’t lose 5lbs? Ever wished for God to reveal to you the “ultimate” answer for your life? A plan so amazing it would take 5 minutes for him to reveal it to you (not so sure if it’s that amazing if the answer can be given so quickly)? Well… whatever you are hoping for instant gratification on – it’s not available! At least it’s not available for most things that are of utmost importance to us!
James 1:4 tells us, “And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” Steadfastness, the ability to stay stable, unwavering and endure. Scripture shows us that we must follow a set path, staying steadfast or stable, enduring consequences of our actions and plan to become perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. This should be our plan for our relationship with Christ, stay stable and endure the path set before us to reach His perfect will or destiny for our lives. An unwavering relationship with Christ will never let you down – you will accomplish all that He has determined for your life.
Think about this next time you embark on a life journey. Pray about staying on track, whether it be your diet, exercise, eliminating distractions or better time management so that you may stay steady on the course the Lord has planned for your life. After all, you CANNOT do His will if you are physically unable to do so!
What are you praying about this week?
